Affordable House - Floor Plans

1) In this project we are creating a house for  another student in the class and we have dimensions and constraints we work with to make him a house that Will meet his needs. also depending on the rooms of the house them more space you get to work with.

Reflection;
1.)what i learned is that this is going to be a fun project and i learned how to draw a floor plan.
2.)what i liked was was getting to draw a floor plan.
3) I didn't dislike anything about this project.
4.) Theres nothing i would do differently about this project.

Shed Drawing

For the Shed drawing we had directions on how to build a shed and we had to build it on revit program. It was challenging but fun.

Reflection:

1.) What i learned is what steps engineers take before they go out and start buying materrials to build anything they use programs like revit to get a good visual and price estimate.
2.) What i liked is having freedom to add our own windows and doors also decorating the outside of the Shed.
3.) what i didnt like the directions werent really clear.
4.) what i would change is have better and clear direnctions so the builder knows what they are doing.

Roof project

For the roof project we had a Kleenex box and we had to choose a difficult and also simple type of roof and attach and build a roof on top of the box and show all the parts on the roof like insulation, roof studs, and all that. Below is a picture of me and Matt`s roof project.

Advantages:
  • Compared to a hipped roof, or a shed roof, gabled roofs give more room in the top.
  • The Gable Roof is really affordable and has minor problems.
Disadvantages:
  • Gabled roofs are bad in hurricanes, because the wind often will catch the end of the roof.
  • They don’t protect the walls on the ends of the roof as well as hipped roofs do.
Geographical Area:
  • Gabled roofs are most commonly used in Europe and the U.S.
Reflection:
1.) What i learned is how roofs are constructed with different layers and what  engineers go through to make sure roofs are perfect for protection.
2.)What i liked was getting to work with glue guns and actually construct something and do hands on work.
3.)What i disliked was when the hot glue from the gun touched your finger it hurt!
4.) And i wouldn't do anything differently the project was fun and perfect i liked it.

Desing Charrette

1.) In this project we worked as a group with everyone having different tasks to do to complete building homes and a town center for a stake holder that wanted his 100 acre land to be renovated. We were to build 150 homes and a town center for the stake holder. We worked together to get it done and then finally presented it.

                       OUR NOTES (TAKEN BY SEBASTIAN)
Nathan M was the cost estimator.
Ben was the Environmental Engineer
Michael was the Health and Safety
Matt was the Health and Safety
Nathan K was the structural engineer
Sebastian Swanson was the interior designer

The environmentalist says 3 trees per house.
“I’m the structural engineer, nothing I say helps much”
-Nathan Kuhlman
For every road, there shall be a sidewalk
-Nathan K
There should be a couple acres of park total.
We will have a playground, and a soccer field.
“we need an important thing in the center”
-bower
“PINEAPPLE”
-Nathan M
Hospital i the center of town, a mall, doctors, auto shop, grocery, gas station, mc Donalds, Old country buffet, Leann Chins
150 houses needed
(50*.25)=x
x+x+x+x= 50 acres
“ERRything better fit regulation”
-Bower
“That’ll setya back about a million”
-Nathan
“I finna build some parks”
-Nathan M
We should make sure all the buildings have an efficient set up
-me
Ben talks about his awesome idea for a three way road.
“So we’re gonna make a 2 acre school”
-Nathan
“That’s one small school”
-Bower
“What, Why”
-Nathan

                                                 Reflection:
1.) What i learned was how engineers go about building things by working together and sit down and do a desing charrette before they jump at getting materials and building.
2.) what i liked was getting to imagine we were building a town on 100 acres and we could put anything on it we wanted.
3.) what i disliked was nothing this was actually a fun project.
4.) what i would do differently is find a better way of taking group notes because the note taker never always kept up with our speeches and comments because we either talked to fast and couldn't keep up or got of topic.

This is Your Career - Project 1.2.1

The "This is your career project" was an intresting project because we got to interview a civil engineer. We also got to pretend we were civil engineers 10 years from now and we also got to answer the same interview questions. It was a good project because it gave us a view towards what the world out there for civil enginnering is like and what were looking forward too.

,Probe Enginnering Company, (952) 432-3000,   (i never got a reply from them*)

but according to the class work and stuffi filled out i thought it was a pretty fun project.
